Oklahoma

September 20th, 2005

Still taking mostly secondary roads but generally following 40 West back toward California. Took 71 through the Boston Mountains coming out of Fayetteville, then on into Oklahoma on 40W. A stop at Lake Thunderbird to grill a steak by the river.

Gas prices are still coming down. Cigarette prices going back up, but I stocked up in the tobacco belt (where apparently there is no state tax on cigarettes which makes them pretty cheap).

I may have taxed my air conditioner in the focus a bit. I was going to go a bit further yesterday but got a little bit of smoke before I headed down to Thunderbird Lake. Seems to be the belt on the AC. I turned off the AC and didn't have a problem getting the 20 miles or so to Thunderbird. Then coming in to OK City I turned it back on briefly and had no more problems. It was extremely hot yesterday and with a speed limit of 70 at times I was probably taxing the system. We'll see what happens today. I may need to find a Ford dealer in Texas to get the belt replaced. A coolant flush and tire rotation are probably in order as well. Got the radiator done at Jiffy Lube in Memphis so that should be good.

Here's data:
Total Miles Jasper, AR to Tecumsah, OK: 357
Gallons purchased: 13.732
MPG: 26.00
Gas Price Range: $2.399 Tecumsah, OK to $2.589 Mountainburg, AR
